Air Defense Basic Information

If there’s one thing no aerial troops wants to receive, it’s an Air Defense attack. Appropriately named, this building unleashes a devastating amount of damage on any air unit that foolishly comes in range. With the perfect Air Defense placement, a village can be pretty much impossible to destroy with an air-focused attack.

(In-Game Description)

“This anti-air tower is deadly against flying enemies, but can’t target foes on the ground. Place it wisely to cover as much airspace as possible.”

The problem with this unit is that it can only attack one air troop at a time while being unable to harm ground troops at all. This means that unless you have other structures like Cannons, Wizards, or Archer Towers protecting it, your Air Defense will be easy prey to a group of ground units.

Air Defense Defense Strategy

An effective Air Defense base is one where an invader can’t attack from any direction without running into one of these. Since your Air Defense range and damage output are both significant at even Level 1, you should spread them out throughout your village so they devastate any aerial troops that approach. Fortunately Air Defense upgrade costs aren’t too high, which means you can make them deadly without leaving huge dents in your pocket.

You should also make sure they are well-defending by other structures as Lava Hounds target Air Defenses first. That and Air Defenses are incapable of defending itself from ground-based attackers. Lastly, keep in mind that a single Giant or Golem is capable of beating down this structure down as Air Defense hit points are not the most impressive numbers, so make sure you keep them behind walls if you can.

Air Defense Offensive Strategy

A single Air Defense is enough to ruin an aerial attack, which means you’ll want to destroy them first if this is your plan. Do your best to use ground troops to take out any Air Defense you think will damage your air troops– Giants are a good choice as they can withstand attack from other defensive structures long enough to destroy the target.

When it comes to Air Defense vs Dragon, more often than not the Dragon is going to win, depending on the levels of both units, other nearby structures, etc. That is why a good Air Defense attack strategy is to use a Dragon to absorb the hits while Balloons close in to cause destruction. Lightning Spells are also said to be handy, although you do need a few (around 3-4) to take down a single Air Defense.
